Sanchez has been a journalist, correspondent and television news anchor for over 30 years, and spent nearly a decade in cable news-first at MSNBC and then at CNN. A message from Joe Humphrey – FSPA Evaluations Coordinator

As you may know, FSPA is partnering with our national peer organizations to host the JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in November 2015 at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel. The first meeting of the convention local committee is this week, and one of our first orders of business is to establish a theme for the convention. We’ve got the verbal part figured out, “Media Magic 2015,” a homage to the Magic Kingdom, Universal’s Harry Potter worlds and the NBA’s Orlando Magic.

Now we need the visual side, a logo, one that cannot include a castle, a boy wizard or a basketball team. We’re looking for a logo (or logo set) that will look good on programs, T-shirts, stickers, social media, etc. Past themes and logos can be found at http://journalismconvention.org/ and http://www.studentpress.org/nspa/conventions-pastsites.html.
If you, a current student or a former student are interested in designing the logo, we’d love to see some ideas. Please send them my way by Friday to nhcjcorlando@gmail.com.

It is my true hope that all of you have had an amazing kick-off to your 2014-1015 school year! I would like to apologize for the delay in getting the FSPA District 7 Workshop date out. In last years workshop we discussed a partnership between FSPA and the Florida Panthers hockey franchisee. In the negotiations of our partnership, I personally felt it was best that we backed out of the agreement due to the financial impact it would of had towards the students. The Florida Panthers and I could not come to an agreement on a base price that would be reasonable for the students.

With the above being said, I would like to formally announce that the FSPA District 7 Workshop will be held at Deerfield Beach High School on Saturday, November 1st. The cost per student will be $20.

Please note we are looking for volunteers for the following areas…

• Broadcast Contest – Coordinator
• Print Contest – Coordinator
• Judging

If you are know of any changes to journalism programs and have contact information for new teachers please feel free to forward the information to me so we can keep them in the loop of the changes and updates for the fall workshop.
